Disaster. Drive train, maybe?

The other day I was pulling my 93 900 s up my driveway and I heard a "kah-chunk!" and then upon engaging the clutch to go further it just makes a bunch of rattling and clanging. I got out and looked on the ground and saw a few pinball-sized bearings and a 2-inch rectangular piece of something that cracked off. It kind of looks like half of a belt buckle. I turned it off and pushed it up the drive way.
Any ideas as to what went wrong? Is it gonna cost me an arm and a leg. It's not my favorite of the two 900s I own so I don't think I'd go over $1000 in repairs.
