I decided to start surfing TSN tonight as my 88 SPG sat for about 3 months, and with a new battery started the first spin. It really caught me by surprise. Then I let it sit about 10 days and went to start it yesterday. It crank, started then stopped, I had not been rerady to hit e gas pedal. After that nothing no trying to fire. I am on hold due to rain etc, but I did get a look at the carbon springloaded finger that is in the center of the inside of the dist cap. It won't protrude out, as if it has no spring pressure, but I am thinking it will jump fire that far. But again I am thinking distributor finger, as I have had 2 of those resistor type "fingers" go bad on me at the drop of an instant.Perhaps when the rain stops I can swap oput a few parts. As for the original poster and the suggestion I mi8ght have a dizzy, it depends upon the type saab engine, One with a hall sensor has to be a turbo or 88 or earlier non T?? Yes? Fixing hall sensors aren't easy, but I guess the fella could have gotten it right. Not smart enough at the second to know if bad dizzy finger would also stop spark at coil. It's a cheap fix . I never knew the dizzy finger could go bad before the first time. My old post "I gave her the finger" spells that revelation out.
