better look at the harmonic balancer... soon. you can do the following to test it... if you have already removed the AC belt it's easier, but not required. the HB (harmonic balancer) is comprised of a solid turned piece of metal that the aluminum pulley for the AC bolts onto, this is effectively a solid connection. The next three pullies (power steering and the two for alternator waterpump) are all on a single turned metal piece BUT it is mounted on a rubber sleeve that is in turn mounted on the Solid unit I first mentioned. This rubber sleeve gives some shock mounting to the water pump, alternator, and power steering pump. The AC pump in *not* run off that rubber mounting.
So, the rubber eventually wears out... and the three pullies on it slip on the rubber sleeve, causing it to fail even more quickly... and you usually hear a squealing. One way to ID if this is the issues... is to put a white line across all of the pullies. remember that the AC pulley does not ride on the rubber... so if the line from the AC pulley to the Power steering pulley (that is the adjacent one) MOVES... it means that the rubber is allowing the pulley to slip. and it will continue until it failes. Do it as soon if so... it gets worse faster... you can do the entire job from the top. lots of write ups here. if you have a Stick you can have someone in the car, put the car in 2nd gear, and have them push the brake hard as you use a lever on a 1/2 drive breaker bar to break the bolt on the crankshaft loose. do the same in reverse to tighten. if you have replace the belts... you have done 50% of the work needed. the only other magic is removing the AC pulley to get enough clearance for the breaker bar. you will also need to cut the socket to gain enough clearance. if you need to do this shoot me an email and I will take pictures and send to you of the stuff I use.
