I just got the Polk Audio DXi 400's from Crutchfield for my two front speakers and they sound great. A big improvement over the worn 20 year old original Clarions (I did not have the upgraded tweeter extended to the blank circle part of the dash grille). Anyway, just unclipped the old ones and used the identical wiring connectors. Make sure you have a short torx wrench for unscrewing the speaker grill screws. Didn't require any cutting or extra work. I've also just ordered the Kicker 4x10's to replace the OEM rears but haven't installed them yet. They get a "Signature" series rating from Crutchfield. Some people have mentioned that the stock speakers have an extra ridge/rim that makes them deeper than aftermarket and so some people have had to create an extra wooden or rubber bushing "cushion"/barrier for everything to fit right. Don't know yet whether the Kickers will fit right. Crutchfield also carries 4x10's by Kenwood and by Retro. The Kenwoods have been around for a while and get a lot of good reviews by owners of older GM vehicles. Ultimately, as other posters have elaborated on here, if you keep everything original the classic 900 interior dynamics don't allow for that amazing surround sound quality you get from some cars. I've been OK with it so far b/c I take my parcel shelf out pretty frequently for lugging stuff so I've been willing to make the tradeoff.
