Stalker,
I was only repairing the cable so I just disconnected it at both ends before soldering, no need for a heat sink. The distributor and it's connector are OK. Had just enough 22 gauge green and brown stranded copper AWM for the job and used 18 gauge black for the ground leg. Re-used the old terminals by clipping away the old wire and soldering the new wire on instead of crimping. The terminals slide out of the plastic connector when you depress a prong on them with a tiny probe. I ordered some new terminals from EagleDay.com for the next time I have to do this. I can't find a source for the female connector (the old oval style) that's on the distributor (like I said, this one was still good) but it is included when you buy a distributor rebuild kit and no soldering is required if you go that route, it's already attached to the Hall effect device that comes in the kit. It may be possible to retrfit the old style distributor (and the cable) with a later style AMP connector but that experiment will have to wait until it becomes an issue for me.
