exhaust clamp tightness?

How tight do you all go on those circular muffler clamps? In the past I've gone all the way to where the gap in the circular clamp is closed, but that may be overkill? Maybe just tighten until any leaking gas can't be heard or felt?
What's your usual method?
Thanks
