1990 n/a 900, base model, ABS, vented disks -
I had the passenger front wheel bearing replaced a couple of years ago & ever since I've lived with the constant squeek-squeek-squeek of the rotor rubbing on the pads. With my recent run from Denver to Tucson & back, I decided to try & solve the annoyance. What I found was that the rotor would brush against the outboard pad at one point, then it would brush against the inboard pad at 180° (directly opposite) rotation. Obviously, the rotor/hub/bearing/spindle assembly is not running true.
I marked the outboard rub location on the rotor center, removed the rotor & buffed the face of the hub & back of the rotor center at that location. This was to insure that no debris or corrosion was causing the rotor to not sit flush against the hub. I reassembled everything & still have the squeek.
What's the next most likely culprit for causing this symptom? I originally thought the bearing must be out of plane, but I'm being told by the shop (that replaced the bearing) that it's not a press fit bearing, but rather a very close slip fit & held in place with two snap rings.
Help, Mr. Wizard(s)!
