Did you check the vacuum line to the regulator for fuel smell.I had an 85 900t that had a bad regulator that would suck fuel into the engine at startup then be fine when running.It would be like it was flooded then clear out and run fine.It took quite a while to figure it out.I ended up using the brakebleeder canister from my vacuum pump.hooked in series in the vacuum line .It would fill about half way with gas only when cranking.Hope this helps, Larry
