I've had similar experience in a c900 with a new(ish) alternator + voltage regulator + battery. Alternator wires were fine but I replaced the positive battery cable because the insulation was crumbling (look near the cable strap to the car chassis between the battery and engine). That solved it.
Even new batteries can fail, but I measured the voltage while running + it wasn't quite high enough (before + after the new battery went in), suggesting an alternator problem, or wires... turned out to be wires... crumbling insulation is common at this age (at least in our cold winter climate): both our c900s had it. If the wires are original, they're probably due...
