I thought you guys might appreciate this:
I'm working through getting a 86 turbo back on the road after it's been sitting for a while. The seller said " all is needs is a slave cylinder." so I replaced the slave, rebuilt the master and then after finding that the line leaks, I got a new one of those as well. I was almost ready to take it for a spin...
I had noticed that the rack was wet with oil, but hoped it might be a slow leak. Well after who knows how many years sitting in one guys garage, it only took a month for it living at my house until the rack decided to dump all it's fluid. I'm guessing it happened because my kids play in the car and turn the wheel back and forth, like they're driving. The oil is coming out of the left side boot, so I ordered a reman rack, lines, and I hope everything else I need. In any case, this episode has only strengthened my belief that I am jinxed.
So hey, while we are talking, has anyone come up with a cool alternative to the ignition key? Prvious owner aleady clumsily hooked up a ratty toggle switch and the ignition cylinder is a gummy mess. Hoping to fab a something custom for less $$. I'm thinking a bank of toggles, like in the mini Cooper, with the metal guards would be cool since they could also work as window switches.
