Thanks for the replies guys. I didn't want to go full bore on the crank nut. I was afraid I'd shear the end off.
After thinking for a bit, I filled the motor to overflowing with kerosene and then put a big block of oak on the piston head and hit it with a BFH to drive the piston down. I had to keep doing that, alternating pistons until I got all the TC bolts off--couple hours.
Once I got the block off I flipped it over to have a look. I'm damn lucky I didn't have catastrophic failure and put hard parts through the tranny. Two rod bolts were missing completely--probably find them in the oil sump. The crank and the rods are a nice tarnished silver color like they were annealed. Can't imaging how hot they got. Rod bearings and crank are toast. Whole thing is headed to the scrap yard, but I expected that. I've got another motor going in.
