Condition of fuse box Posted by CBS [Email] (#969) [Profile/Gallery] (more from CBS) on Fri, 4 Nov 2011 13:58:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My '88 SPG driving lights (below bumper) instantly blow the fuse when activated (they worked fine this Summer). I checked wiring from lights into connectors and into harness -- looks OK. I then disconnected the battery and lifted the fuse/relay box up to take a look at the wiring. The wire to the driving lights fuse looks good. Also, looks good to the relay. Can someone tell me why driving lights even have a relay (showing my ignorance of electrical)? Could a bad relay cause the fuse to blow?
On a side note, I noticed some burned plastic on the wires coming out of the rear window defrost relay. More specifically, it looked like some black plastic from the underside of the relay melted and dripped onto the wire (green/white). Also, the two green/white wires (2) showed some slight brown discoloration. Is this something to worry about? I only drive this car in the Summer and haven't noticed anything wrong with the rear window defroster...but, that may be because I haven't used it in years. Is it OK to test it (turn it on and feel for heat)? In other words, will the fuse/relay protect the circuit wire from overheating if something is bad wrong?
I do have another SPG of same year that I can switch relays with.
So I guess I have a few general wiring/relay questions here. TIA
