WANTED: Dist. from a 16V 85-93 Turbo (or 86-87 NA) Posted by The Noob Eternal [Email] (#3049) [Profile/Gallery] (more from The Noob Eternal) on Tue, 22 Nov 2011 18:18:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Greetings all,
It seems my CPS is shot and repairing it properly would cost more than the car is worth. But stay yon crusher yet a little while! There is hope! Hans suggested a kludge, and Scanwest (a worthy Saab repair place in Seattle) agreed it would work: Instead of fixing the CPS, drop in a Turbo distributor. Yay! Now, um, all I need is... a Turbo distributor. Which, it seems, are hard to come by.
Anyone have one, with intact wiring?
Many thanks...
Quoting Hans (from the "Is the Flivver Doomed?" thread):
"You can use a Turbo distributor instead of replacing the crank sensor on your car. The Turbo distributor has the Hall sensor inside it, whereas the dist. on your car is hollow. You need a dist. from a 16V 85-93 Turbo (or 86-87 NA), plus a bit of the wiring harness from the donor car, that is, the plug and a couple feet of wiring. Splice the old crank sensor wiring to the donor wiring, install the distributor, set the base timing to 14* BTDC and drive. The signal is the same as your crank sensor. Do not use the vacuum capsule that comes on Turbo distributors."
