You can try rebuilding it. I've done that a couple times. It depends on how badly it get's tangled up in the tank. The lower canister containing the float gets separated from the top cap. That's what you are hearing sloshing around. There is a thin wire coil that connects the float to the cap. If it isn't too bird-nested up, you can just resolder the electrical wires and put things back together. You have to be careful when putting the bottom back on the cap that the shafts that the float rides on stay parallel to each other so that the float can go up and down without restriction. I added a couple small brads through the canister and into the cap to be sure it stays back together. Both my rebuilds are working fine.
