Or I guess asking, could his cleaning have broken it? Since it was working acceptably before he did his thing, and much worse since.
Well, it certainly doesn't make you feel very good about your effectiveness, Russ. I hope nothing you did was the cause of worse symptoms on reinstall.
Anyone else have a similar story? Or any insight?
I had an 89 NA that had bad racing idle problems, chronically. Swapped AICs, swapped AMMs, cleaned AICs, all new vac hoses and bushings and NO vacuum leaks, but still fast idle.
Then the ECU went bad stranding me on the road. Found another and installed it, and idle was perfect thence to end of car's life, rust being the culprit there. (Also, Check Engine light stopped coming on.)
No good odometer so nothing to go on but general ideas of miles travelled, but the car, in its fast-idling mode, seemed to get a good bit better gas mileage than after it slowed down, 30-plus vs 30-minus. So I think the ECU had been bad for a long time, making it run too lean.
