MTL is the product of choice IMHO. But it's no a silver bullet: if the transmission is dying, it will not save it. I believe this is the essence of most of the horror stories.
Any new oil is going to perform better than spent oil, so I strongly suggest a flush with conventional 10w30 motor oil (as specified by saab) beforehand. This way, not only do you get a jump on flushing the transmission, but you also experience what new dinosaur juice feels like, so you have an honest comparison to the MTL. Whatever you do, don't put synthetic motor oil in it.
The Chain-case is distinct, and will not drain with the rest of the transmission, if you want a full flush, you really need to either syphon the oil out or pull the front cover off. If you do drain the front, you *must* add a quart directly to the chain-case.
When I switch a box to redline, i always do it twice (second time at maybe 500 miles).
