on the shaft used one. You have the Mitsu TE-05 in there, and that is considered to be better than the Garrett that went up to 1990/91. However, i have found that the little Mitsu is tricky to find at a good price, and with C900 parts really starting to get a little thin on the ground, if your budget is tight, go for a great condition Garrett instead. If money is not an issue, then you could either pay someone like 900 AERO (that's his posting handle on here) to do a rebuild (and maybe an upgrade?), or check with any of the site sponsers-i'm sure you can find someone to sell you a new one. For a decent used one, site sponser Goldwing may be able to help. I expect a good used Mitsu could fetch $300 (i've been lucky on my last two at $150 a piece, with wastegates), and a new one is probably closer to a $1000 these days.
The labor can be kind of a pain, but it depends on how rusty a few key bolts are. It's going to be in the shop for at least a couple of hours, and if they make a big deal over it, as many as 5 or 6 wouldn't surprise me. If you're doing it yourself, why not order up a few hoses and 'tune-up' parts, and make a full 'going over' of it? Finish off with an oil and filter change (after running it for a few minutes, with replacement turbo on), new coolant, and, of course, the base boost set correctly at about 5.5 psi, and it will drive like a new car!
