Somewhere around '85 - '86 (don't recall exactly) Saab switched to a larger tripod bearing and inner driver. There are only two permutations for the C900; the early small one and the later large ones. You can retro-fit the larger ones to early cars, that's what Saab recommended and they discontinued the smaller ones while the cars were still being made. Many (probably most) of the early c900s have by now been retro-fitted with the larger parts. You can tell the early (small) from late (larger) inner drivers by counting the raised rings (including the one at the outer end, covered by the boot when installed). Early ones have 3 raised rings and late ones have only 2 rings.
