It's always the grounds! (unless it's the vacuum!) Posted by nicknick [Email] (#731) [Profile/Gallery] (more from nicknick) on Fri, 2 Mar 2012 21:51:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I currently drive a '88 C900t with LH2.2. It has a rock solid idle. No, really. Right from a 0'f start, as well. I put this primarily down to 2 things:
1) All vac hoses and grommets are new (mostly), and all vac related equipment has been tested for leaks.
2) Every ground connection under the hood has been polished with a Dremel before assembly, and tested under load after installation.
Several of the components in this car lived in another C900 previously, and that car had hideous idle, especially from cold (freezing and below), where it would usually stall. I put this down to one main issue: The ground cluster down at the radiator was in a terrible mess. Even after cleaning things up, stripping wires back a few inches, i was never able to get to good copper. The wires were destroyed. Corroded to the point of being a red power in places. This also gave the car performance problems. I just assumed that i had a bad AMM.
These problems never caused my car not to start at all, otherwise i would have chased them down more thoroughly. But i wonder how many cars, especially LH2.2, that are running poorly due to these grounding issues.
The wire inside the loom is obviously harder to catch, but having clean ground points is always a good start.
Good luck
