Just had a hell of a time trying to get a dead slave out .. I tried everything from the pennies to prying it off from the pressure plate, but none of them gave me enough room. I was about to fabricate a lever tool when I saw someone mention this trick. Worked fantastically!! There is absolutely NO need for the special saab tool to compress the pressure plate fingers.
There seemed to be some confusion from the other members here on the exact process, so I thought I would snap a picture to illustrate the trick. This pic shows where you put the nut and tighten down the bolt, you need to do this at three locations around the pressure plate.

"Remove every other one of the pressure plate bolts, back the other 3 off till almost out, pry pressure plate up (NO force needed, should lift right up) and slide one fat 1/2"NC nut in under each forged ear of the pressure plate where it pokes out of its pressed steel backing, just at the point where a strap is riveted that links forged part to the pressed steel backing. Set it so head of rivet drops down into center of nut holding it in place. Turn flywheel till all 3 are in place, and then tighten down the 3 remaining pressure plate bolts. That will cause spring fingers to depress and let you slip the bucket handle or special Saab ring tool into place to hold them depressed.
Then unbolt, picking up your 3 nuts as you do, and extract pressure plate, clutch disk, and slave cylinder with throwout brg. (unbolted earlier). I like a magnetic extension tool I bought, for putting nuts into place and retrieving them."
