Where do you live? What was the weather? If you were in 30 degree weather in New England, that MAY indicate a problem, but in CA or FL or HI in 80 to 90 degree heat, probably not so much.
There is no dampening between the sensor and gauge on a C900. That said, it is normal for some variation in the temperature, particularly in warm weather in traffic. As long as the gauge is staying 3/4 scale or lower, there's little you'll be able to do about it, without potentially affecting other things.
But as the others mentioned, be sure the system is bled properly, make sure the coolant is topped up, and a bottle of "Water Wetter" can't hurt.
BTW - newer cars (NG900 & later...) dampen the temp gauge movement so that normal temp fluctuations do not move the needle at all. The car warms up and, unless it gets hot to the point where it may be a problem, never moves off "N".
