Probably more of an issue with availability than cost. If you switch to the newer kit, you're going to need new bumpers and mounts, and that'll easily cost you $100-200 with shipping for the bumpers alone. Then you have to buy the kit.
Personally, I love the look of the older SPG kits - it'd hold out for the age-appropriate version. Make it a habit to review FleaBay daily using the new listings sort. That's how I found the SE rear bumper skirts that fit the convertibles, and those are really rare. One hint is to take a careful look at the photos of junkyard cars. Althought he guy was actually selling a different part, I got the rear bumper skirts because I noticed it was the right car in the photo and contacted him about selling them (he had no idea how rare the skirts were and I got a great price on them).
