frozen lower fuel pump check valve(?) Posted by Jager [Email] (#7453) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Jager) on Wed, 30 May 2012 20:32:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
In my 1990 900 Turbo the fuel pressure is about 70 lbs (2.5 x what the manual says it should be!) The fuel pump seems to have two upper check valves (on the top, both apparently OK),for the supply and return lines. But there is what appear to be another in a plastic casing at the bottom of the assembly, connected to the upper return line by a small black hose (maybe 5mm ID). It says "SAAB 7590920". When this lower valve is disconnected, the pressure seems OK. I cannot locate this part separate from the $400 whole assembly. So I have two questions: is this part available anywhere separately OR 2) can I just bypass it since the upper two would seem to be quite sufficient for the tasks of maintaining the required pressure in the lines. I discovered this when I blew the return line from the pressure relief valve. (One more datum: it takes about 5 seconds for the car to start, longer than I normally like for a properly tuned vehicle. Is this OK?)
