83 sedan 5 speed was totalled in a roll over accident that left the car landing upside down on a state grass cutting tractor. State Farm allowed extra money for the recent rebuilt by dealer engine and new tires. On a 92 Saab sedan GF totalled car by tearing drivers door off. State Farm gave me 1500 and car back for about $60. Once I repair a wrinkle in door and front L fender I can get a salvage title for it. Maybe ask for car back and site good insurance companies tendency to increase value for recent expenses like tires and rebuilt engine. I'd suggest their negative practice will be "exposed" to millions via any forum you think necessary. The insurance companies spend millions for positive advertising how much accident victims deserved money are they willing to cheat someone out of to get free negative advertising. Like stated go over the adjusters head. Things in writing can be considered libelrous, however if you have proof of the engine build they ought to give you half to three quarters what you paid. I think SF factored in another 1000 on the 83 sedan. That was well over 18 years ago.Guess what? I have remained a loyal SF customer, even tough I may have saved money elsewhere, their fair practices have kept me a loyal customer.3-5 vehicles insured with them all the time. Best to you on this. Don't settle w/o a argument, and especially some values from this site where we know what a good car costs. As for rust I wouldn't mention it. Its the utility, low gas milage for a crash worthy solid mid size car that, makes our era Saabs a valuable asset to own. They are getting more rare, so speak to the classic aspect also. Now go get em and don't let any uneducated non Saaber devalue the best car for the money in the world. Be your own salesman. They just bought your car, and there is no shame in you getting all it's worth.
