it doesn't look too bad to do yourself. this comes from the saab ABS service manual for C900 89- book 5:2.
TO REMOVE:
1) remove the accumulator (bomb) while m/c is still in car (easier).
(next from BAGGSLY)...depressurize the brake system by pumping the brake pedal 20-30 times. you will know this has happened because the pedal gets rock hard. the ignition MUST be off. plug the opening on m/c.
2) it says first remove the master cylinder assembly. i don't know if there's room to work in it in situ on the 9000, it has to come out in the C900.
3) disconnect the pump delivery pipe from the pump unit. plug the open end of the pipe.
4) prise back the catch and unplug the electrical connector.
5) disconnect the inlet hose from the pump unit.
6) undo the securing screw at the front of the pump unit. (NOTE THE ORDER for reassembling the dampers, washers. and spaccer).
7) disengage the pump and motor unit from its rear mounting. remove the pressure switch (use special tool 89 96 571). hint, if the switch is difficult to undo, insert a suitable brace between the pump body and the hydraulic unit.
(next from BAGGSLY)...the special tool looks like a big honking socket, but where each of the "points" of the socket are, it actually has a flat in it (to match part?). i guess you could use a socket of right size and cut flats (a la ignition nut socket), or, perhaps try a slightly larger socket?
TO FIT:
1) fit a new "o" ring and screw in the pressure switch. tightening torque 15-19 lb ft (20-26 Nm).
2) reconnect the inlet hose to the pump unit.
3) engage the rear mounting on the pump unit.
4) assemble the dampers, waqshers and spacer (book says AS SHOWN, frm BAGGSLY, MAINTAIN ORDER).
5) plug on the electrical connector.
6) reconnect the pump deliver pipe to the pump unit.
refit the hydraullic unit in the car. fit the accumulator tightening torque 25-34 lb ft (34-46 Nm).
FRM BAGGSLY i hope this answers the question about whether you can do it and how to do it should you decide to! either way, if you do it yourself, please post a follow-up with how it went, turned out, and any tips you come up with!
baggsly :-)
