Revving up and down at Idle? Ideas or suggestions?

THis morning when I hopped in my car and turned the key, my 89 900 Turbo immediately started revving to 2000 rpm and down to around 500 RPM over and over again with only a second or two between the revs, almost like the car was hyperventilating. :(

This is the first time anything like that has happened. It was running like a dream last night when I got home and shut her off. Starting again produced the same result. Putting the car in gear, the idle was still way too high, but I was able to pull the car into the garage and shut her down.

So I'm scratching my head and hope you can offer some ideas as to what might be wrong since you guys called it right last time and helped this noob out. I used the search function and while I found many similar threads, there was nothing that described my problem.
