Thanks for the good advice. I gather that Cmyles is an expert, based on his numerous posts I've found while searching the BB. I have some snake oil I may pour in, but I know that the gunk in my governor didn't dissolve, even when brake cleaner was sprayed all over it, so I don't have high hopes for it fixing the valve body. Maybe we will have to disassemble. Yucky...but doable.

However, after letting the car sit for a day, it was fine again. It seemed to shift at a slower speed than before, but held in all the gears. Weird and weirder! At least I know it's not bands again.

Cmyles, if I can pick your brain, could you tell me if changing the fluid will hurt anything? I've heard that changing transmission fluid will take the metal dust out, so the transmission will be more likely to slip. Is this true?

I've read through the transmission swap PDF. My boyfriend is pretty good with these car things, having owned a 900 for seven years, so I think he got everything for the swap. Oil pickup tube for sure, but it's good to know about the flywheel bolts. If we didn't get them, are they special (super strong, or a weird size), or can I source them from a hardware or auto parts store?
