There are a few ways that I know of to strengthen the bucket-style motor mounts. All work, but deliver different levels of smoothness and lifespan:
1) Keep the OEM mount complete, and stuff the gap between the top of the mount and the underside of the safety bar with rubber. This limits the upward movement of the mount, which should make it last longer, while giving you OEM levels of vibration damping during most conditions. Personally I never tried this.
2) Keep the OEM steel 'bucket' only, and re-cast a new up-facing bolt with stronger/better urethane in the bucket - while ditching the oil damping feature of course. This is what the Swedish Dynamics style was, I think they are still around. If done right this should last a long time, and add only a tiny bit of more vibration to the car. I haven’t used one of these or been in a car with one.
3) Use a billet aluminum plate to span the distance, with rubber pads for vibration isolation. This is the style I made for ultimate durability with higher performance motors in mind, and it does increase vibration somewhat (most noticeable while sitting at idle). I sent a private message to you via saabnet regarding these. No sales on the BB. Damien
