I hit a truck tire carcass a few years back and put a crack in my tank. As I recall, I drained all the fuel (so it no longer dripped or seeped), roughed the area with medium sand papaer, cleaned the area with solevent (acetone), and repaired the crack with a polysulfide sealant. Its held for several years (I have a spare tank in the form of another car just in case).
I tried fiberglas and JB weld (wouldn't adhere to tank).
The polysulfide was called "8802" in the military.
