yeah, this happens. typically never as bad as it sounds because its more of a seeping than a leak. never leaks >~100ml between oil changes anyways. I feel your aggravation though. recent rebuild to my '85T and that the first thing i noticed. should have know better. happens to all Saab engines (up to 2004 anyway:9000,ng900,og9-3,9-5). the oil return passage where the cylinder head meets the engine block should be "gooped" with some extra sealant...I was told, by a wiser SAAB tech than I, that loctite 518 gasket maker ("starwberry jelly goop") is the best stuff to use there. also apply well around the timing chain side of the head gasket. and be sure to apply it to above and below areas of the head gasket/mating surface.
Tip also applies to when mating surface of engine and transmission (AKA oil pan seal)
