All ball joints should only rotate and have intact dust covers. ( No play "up & down") Most accurate way to check is to pull them out of both control arms (upper & lower) and see how they feel manually. Outer tie rod ends can be checked by turning steering wheel to full left turn then squat down, put left hand over tie rod end and wiggle rt. front wheel back & forth with other hand. If you feel any play at the joint it's bad. If whole tie rod jerks it's a bad inner tie rod joint. Do driver side too.
