Ok, nevermind. I found that the lower half of the split plastic ball assembly is the one that should have a tab. A single dinky tab that goes into the slot in that little ring shaped plastic part! I can see why they switched to metal. My year, '93 is supposed to have metal....wonder what happened there.....
I'm gonna post a picture of my fix in my gallery. I just drilled and threaded two small screws in where the tab used to be. I needed two to cover enough range of motion when the ball rotates in the slot. Shifts like a champ now, and doesn't rotate anymore.!
