Curiously, there are a few fasteners on Saabs that are SAE; this and the 1/4"-20 threaded carriage bolts that hold the shifter housing to the body being the only ones I can remember. Maybe that's it.
Those bolts were the same as far back as the 99s. Maybe the shock bolts go back even further in Saab history.
Anyone know the reason for this? Did Scandinavia look to the US for its industrialization rather than to nearby Europe?
