As unlikely as it sounds that plastic shroud is very reliable if all it's bolts are in place, or even just most of them. That plastic is incredibly durable and withstands massive flexing during removal and re-installation without distortion or damage. You could remove the small bolt at the top and pry it back with a big screwdriver to see the line on the end plate if you must but you'll have to get some stuff out of the way to get the view. Someone would have to have done some very serious messing around to have shifted the mark and you'd probably see other evidence of that kind of high class workmanship. Put it in place, install the bolts and time the car.
