Honestly, I bought a 1980 3-door last year and it has been my favorite of the 14 c900s I've owned. It's waiting for fresh paint right now, and I have a 16-valve engine waiting in the basement (only 55k miles) for when the original 8-valve (92k original miles) gives out (if that ever happens). For some reason, the feel, the look, and the drive are just awesome albeit not quite as smooth or stable as the SPG.
The thing I have found about selling 900s is that it's not about pleasing the multitude. You're right - there are plenty of us out there who have gotten a free c900 (I was given two free SPGs in the last year on separate occasions myself - both were not savable and had to be parted out), but that is not the person you are looking for when selling a 900. You just need ONE PERSON who is looking for and willing to pay what you are asking. Just one. It may take a very long time to find that person, and a compromise may be necessary. But that does not mean that you have to please everyone else. In fact, it's really none of our business at all what you want for your car. That's between you and the buyer.
If you think they are asking too much, then the car is obviously not for you. Go find a free rust bucket that some high school kid has smashed around town or learned to drive in. Or, go find a super low mileage one that has sat and marinaded its whole life (watch for mice).
That said, seller: if you do end up selling for close to that amount, please do let us know here on the forum that the ceiling has risen on c900 prices so we can adjust accordingly. Thanks!
