Turning the heat selector on and off will effect the tach. Here's an update to what I've found so far. I changed the worn ignition switch and nothing changed regarding the dash issues. So I stop at the gas station for some fuel and the vehicle won't start, period. The last time this happened we changed the fuel pump and then jumpered the fuse. But we later determined the fuse did not need to be jumped and set it back to original. I tried the jump this time and despite getting the pump to run, I could here it being returned at the engine pressure relief valve. Plenty of spark and compression, so the injectors must not be opening. I let it sit overnight and still no go. So I pulled the cover to the CPU and check the engine and fuel relays. Upon moving the CPU, the connector fell off. So I snap it back into place which takes considerable strength and viola, the car starts right up. As a matter of fact, it runs better thna it has in a year. And all the dashboard issues clear up including the turn signals. Apparently the LH 2.4 control cpu controls a hell of lot more than the fuel system. But, alas, it's a Saab so the story doesn't end there. After trouble free driving for a 1,000 plus miles part of the issue creeps back as follows:
Upon start up, occasionally, the park brake and brake fluid come on for a minute or so. You can drive and be parked, and after a short period they go off. While on the dash is dead, except for those two lights. No heater, no cigarette lighter, no turn signals, rear window heater, emergency signals, etc., dead... But the radio works : ) As soon as the two brake warning lights go off, everything comes back. It's as if some relay or some other electrical component warms up and then makes the delayed connection. Any help would be most appreciated.
