Reverse Gear Issue - Need Some Help Posted by dave24 [Email] (#457) [Profile/Gallery] (more from dave24) on Thu, 13 Dec 2012 17:14:12 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm venturing into new territory for me and hoping for some guidance. Recently picked up an 89 SPG as a winter project. The most significant issue is that it doesn't stay engaged in reverse. I drove it once so far and could not engage reverse. The previous owner said he had to hold the stick to get reverse, but that did not really get it engaged when I tried.
Reading on the site, I am trying the Townsend reverse fix. No problem getting it disassembled, and gear swapped to the other side. Reassembled the arm and it just does not want to engage reverse. Is the idler supposed to slide forward to engage? It stays at the back, and the arm seems to just push against it. I will try and attach 2 pictures from my profile page .. one picture shows in neutral and the second shows with reverse selected.
Can anyone provide any guidance on what to look for?
Thanks,
Dave
