If it's the bypass valve *causing* the noise, chances are it has failed internally or the vacuum line to it has become damaged or disconnected. The intake charge bounces off the throttle plate and goes back the other way down intake tract, causing "compressor flutter." If the noise only happens when snapping the throttle shut under boost, and you can *prevent* the noise from happening by slowly backing off the throttle, then the bypass valve is a good candidate. The noise itself is coming from the turbo, and you DON'T want to let it continue, You can damage the turbo pretty severely.
