It's been so very long since I started this project that it seems prudent to start a new thread and paste in prior comments. (My time had been consumed in part with caring for my mother - but, alas, both that and she are finished. So it's back to Real Life, job-hunting, and car repair/modding.)
In short: I have a turbo distributor which I wish to connect into a non-turbo 1989 900. I know I need to connect the replacement distributor's wiring to the crank sensor wiring, but have failed to figure out precisely how and where. Help, links, photos, and other random advice are all welcome.

well, after much bicycling and occasional intense searching I've yet to quite figure this one out. I'm not finding any 3-wire connectors anywhere near the dipstick or air filter. I'm assuming there should be an unused connector lurking somewhere - or should I be cutting into a continuous bundle of wire? FWIW Bentley's suggests the headlight wipers didn't appear until 1991, and this is a 1989 vehicle. (AFAICT Bentley's also fails to list the anything to "intake plenum" and "alternator stay arm", but I can guess at those.)
Any pictures or diagrams (or references thereto) would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

timely question! I just did this.
there is a cable that is routed up the alternator stay arm, under the intake plenum, and *usually* has the plug near the oil dipstick tube. it's a three conductor connector, usually gray, and the wire from there heads down into a wireloom kinda semi sorta near the bottom of the air filter housing. The important part is that you need to get a mating connector that will plug into the part that goes into the loom. if you want to cut the other end off you can do it, your call. I got another one, the headlight wiper is the correct fit but of course the colors will be different. You will also need the connector that plugs into the side of the distributor and the wire attached, then splice it into the connector from the headlight wiper. there are RED, GREEN, and BLACK wires in end item, I just matched color to color. It worked.

Many months ago I asked about dealing with a faulty crankshaft position sensor (CPS) in a non-turbo 1989 c900. (Is the Flivver doomed?) Hans helpfully suggested:
"You can use a Turbo distributor instead of replacing the crank sensor
on your car. The Turbo distributor has the Hall sensor inside it,
whereas the dist. on your car is hollow. You need a dist. from a 16V
85-93 Turbo (or 86-87 NA), plus a bit of the wiring harness from the
donor car, that is, the plug and a couple feet of wiring. Splice the old
crank sensor wiring to the donor wiring, install the distributor, set
the base timing to 14* BTDC and drive. The signal is the same as your
crank sensor. Do not use the vacuum capsule that comes on Turbo
distributors."
Finally, finally, both sloth and the scarcity of parts have been overcome. I'm ready to install the turbo distributor. But, um... how? Neither Bentley's nor a web search reveal where to attach the wires.
