Hi, when did you last change plugs? consider pulling them and checking the gap. the next thing would be the fans and the thermo switch on the drivers side at the top. you can pull the spade connectors from the switch and use a spare fuse to short them together, at least one, and depending upon several things two of the fans should come on.
The last thing would be that your radiator may be partially blocked. if you have one of the original all black radiators that may be an issue. if you can influence the temperature gauge reading by running hard on the freeway and getting hot, and then easing back to 60 or so.... your radiator may need some attention. but I'd start with the plugs.
