Despite the assurances from Chris "this ain't Chevy crap"....the block position #3 pulled the threads out during HG torque. Made the 45, then made the 65, but during the 90* angle torquing of the final bolt stretching, I heard the block snap and the thread failed.

So I reluctantly pulled the head back off, cleaned the 518 Loctite off the gasket and put it away.

Alright SAAB wizards, what solutions have you pulled out of your bag of tricks? I've already got the block assembled to the 5 speed, sure don't want to undo that. I'll start searching the web to see what repairs options are. I'm not a big fan of the "helicoil" ....never seen any of them that didn't pull right back out the next time it was unbolted.

I've used the KEENSERT type barrel thread inserts....but they typically are short in length (maybe 2 diameters max length) and that is not enough for the head bolt.

Fill the bad hole with JB Weld (or similar "metal miracle") and then drill and tap a nbew M12x1.75?

I grabbed a Volvo 2.3L head bolt just for grins....it is indeed the same size thread, and much longer. I suppose I could cut one down so it would nearly bottom in the remaining threads, but don't think it would hold up to the 90* angle torque.

What have you guys done?
