Simon,
in my experience of dealing with saabs the stamped IDs are the part numbers - or catalog part numbers - with either full part ID or with the first 6 digits only. I haven't seen any saab part featuring some ID, which looked like being some saab part number (7-digit decimal code), but actually wasn't the part number. Some parts may have several identifications imprinted, but one of them must be the saab part number.
James,
please refer my earlier link regarding saab camshafts: for your purpose it doesn't matter whether the cam comes from 16V C900 engine (B202, B212) or 16V 9K one (B202, B234, B204) - they're all the same except the valve timing. Unless you mean V6 9k variant - this one doesn't work here (and they are 24V, not 16V).
I may have missed that episode of 'How it's made' TV series re camshafts re-ground process so you might want waiting for the final word from somebody like Justin van Abrahams or 900 Aero (aka Dave @ Precision Turbo Works).
