I noticed the same "bump" in both my exhaust mani's... and I'm pretty sure they put it there for a reason. The Volvo T3 flanged exhaust mani they came out with in 90+ models of Redblock, have a very interesting casting right under the T3 flange where the turbo mounts. I'm thinking it was referred to as a "goilet" but let me check that....
The Volvo manifold brings all four runners to the center, unlike the SAAB version which carries it all forward.

The author of those pages explains the purpose....most likely the same as our beloved SAABs.
