I used 205/55 with the rear axle relocted forward 10mm. Also, and more importantly, the springs were 600 pound rated and adjustable perches built by Brad. The combo of the axle relocate, and higher spring rates were able to combat the tendency for rub in the rear fender flares.
All of those mods were necessary as lowering the car was important to us. If you have stock springs in the back, you may not have any rubbing issues unless you have the trunk full, and two other happy campers in the back seat.
To be on the safe side of "stock" as Simon S mentioned -- the 50 series tyre is probably the way to go. But, we also liked that the 55 series is slightly taller, giving the car a bit of a higher final gear ratio, reducing the revs per mile the engine has to make.
