Ignition Lock Cylinder Posted by LIFETIMEOFSAABS [Email] (#2) [Profile/Gallery] (more from LIFETIMEOFSAABS) on Fri, 3 May 2013 13:15:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 900 with a funky ignition lock...
The key is difficult to turn. It's not tight, it just needs to be wiggled for a couple of minutes to find the "sweet spot" and then you can gently turn it past the spot it gets caught at from the off position. Once the key is turned, it will work perfectly fine on and off until it is removed.
Then the process of jiggling and gently finding the right amount of pressure will allow it to turn on normally.
The whole thing was taken apart and cleaned and lubed to no effect. Additionally, the pieces that make up the reverse lockout were all replaced with new at the same time.
The key is a brand new key (the never used spare) and that or the original worn key behave the same.
I am thinking bad lock cylinder.. but have been chasing this for a while... any thoughts?
I can replace the cylinder with a new one.. but then the ignition would have a different key than the rest of the car.
Has anyone ever brought a cylinder to a locksmith to be repinned to the original key code? I have the keycode for the car (plus a new key).
