Since the battery is fresh, dead or dying cells are pretty much ruled out.
Here's another possibility:
Quite a few years ago, one guy wrote of a similar problem (I don't remember exactly what it was, though). The source of his electrical problems was that the one of the cables that runs from the positive battery clamp had corroded under the insulation.
Wiggle the small positive cable that runs from the clamp up to the connector block on the inner fender and see what happens.
