Received a call from my Indy yesterday - car was finished, but wouldn't start ('93 900 S). On further investigation, the key cylinder was freely rotating between off and start, with no effect whatsoever. Dash lights were on indicating car was in "Run" mode. Push-started the car and drove home with no issues (other than 'Check Engine' light, put it in 5th, held the brake and let the clutch out to stall it, and pulled the negative battery cable. Console cover is off, and shining a flashlight into the deep dark recesses under the key cylinder, it appears there is a piece of the mechanism laying in the bottom (1/4" x 1/4" piece of ??? metal).
Before I tear into the thing, what is the most likely problem? Key cylinder? Gear set? Ignition switch? I'll be rigging a bypass tonight so I can drive the car, as I just got it on the road and really really want to go for a drive, and don't want to tear it all apart before I get the chance.
