'93 900S manual. Car was purchased by my father from a towing yard a couple years ago. Drove it home (after bodging together the shift linkage with a hose clamp), but threw the timing chain(?) before he did anything else with it. Fast forward a year and a half. I'm at a salvage yard getting an alternator for the daughter-in-law, and casually remark about old Saabs. The owner asks if I know anyone that needs an engine out of a '92 900. He's had it for over five years, and no interest. Offer him $200, and he takes it. Tells me that he'll leave the tranny on the engine, as his computer tells him it was missing reverse when brought in. Long story short - dropped engine and attached tranny in, added a new clutch, runs and drives great both foreward and backward! Still needs this & that (seat covers, radio, paint), but for an essentially rust-free car, gotta love it. Already have more comments on it than on my 9000. Thanks to everyone on this board who has offered advise. Without Saabnet, probably wouldn't have undertaken the challange. Great group here.
