you could rationalize it this way: if it were 3 years old off lease, how much would it cost? $12k would be a pretty good value...
so if it is in that kind of shape now, with many of the other cars on the market rusting or in need of significant work, it might be worth $12k to someone... especially if it is a legitimate rare example with original paint. These cars are going up in value, or at least the good ones are...
I doubt the auto tranny will be a problem at that mileage (though turbo + auto is kind of a bad combo: the turbo is a bit hard on the auto). Just change the ATF (ford type F only!) immediately, and then regularly thereafter and it's probably ok for the usage you plan. swapping in a stick is a whole heck of a lot of work (ie cost if you don't DIY)... but as a garage queen, no big deal for it to stay automatic...
oh, and in terms of general repairs, from your gravatar, looks like you've got a couple 9-5's. c900 parts are cheaper, and most work is easier, than on a 9-5... they are enjoyable to work on for the most part.
