timing cover-what did I miss?

I have a broken timing chain tensioner on the motor I am replacing the head on. Since the motor the replacement head is coming from has a good, or at least better looking, tensioner side chain guide, I thought I'd just take that one. I removed every bolt that I could see, and was left with one threaded stud sticking up from the transmission, and one dowel pin between the cover and the engine block. Try as I might, I couldn't get the cover to release at the bottom. Try as I might is unfortunately an understatement, as I cracked the timing chain cover on the spare motor (an approx 260000 mile 88 SPG motor with a lunched trans bolted to the bottom, but with cams and bores that look better than the supposedly less than half the mileage 91 turbo in the car...).
So I don't repeat this mistake on the motor in the car (soon to be taken out expressly for this job), what do I need to look for in the way of fasteners around the chain cover on a 91 turbo motor? Are there any hidden bolts along the bottom, or does that threaded stud with a but on it actually thread through the cover as well?
